6th Grade Gesher Program
Tuesdays from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
& Parent/Student Programs
The word Gesher means “bridge,” and our sixth graders will begin taking steps to cross the bridge from childhood to Jewish adulthood. We believe the family bond helps ease the transition from childhood to adulthood and builds bridges that will lead children to B'nai Mitzvah, Confirmation, Graduation, and beyond. We want our 6th Graders and their families to have engaging, relevant, and memorable learning experiences. Gesher is our way to help pave the path and set families on a learning journey together. Gesher students will attend on Tuesdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM for Jewish Studies and Hebrew Studies. Gesher 6th Graders AND their parents will meet monthly with our Rabbis and our Educators (Schedule Below!) 6th Graders, together with their parents, will complete a special project that will be displayed after the year. In addition, special activities for our 6th-grade students will only occur throughout the year!

Program dates: December 5, January 9, Feb 6, Mar 5, April 30 and May 28. All of these dates will be 7:30-9pm After a wonderful opening program with scholar Rabbi Andrea Cohen-Kiener, Spiritual Journey Group will focus on the teachings of Rabbi Kalonymous Kalman Shapira with excerpts from 'Conscious Community: A Guide to Inner Work.' Those of you who bought a book in advance of the Shabbat program with Rabbi Cohen-Kiener should bring their copy of the book. Those whose orders we took or confirmed at the program will receive their books on December 5th. You need not have attended the opening session to attend other sessions this year. All are welcome. If you did not pre-order a book, please purchase from an online seller, either new or second hand, to have your own copy for this year's series. A small no. of copies of excerpts will be available for the first couple of sessions for those who need. There is a free version of the textavailable online but the translation is quite varied from the one we are using. Rabbi Kalonymous Kalman Shapira was the Rebbe of the Warsaw Ghetto. One of the last Hasidic masters of Europe, his manuscripts were buried and later rediscovered. He sought ways to bring spirituality and mindfulness practices into daily life and awareness, bringing together spiritual seekers to do this work in community. -

Shabbat, May 4th 10:15a to 12:15p
We celebrate the coming of age of a young person on or after their thirteenth birthday. A minimum of four years of Jewish education is required, although we work individually with children with special needs to ensure that all children can celebrate this important life cycle moment. The ceremony marks the arrival at the ‘age of mitzvot’ – the age at which an individual in the Jewish community has learned how to live according to Jewish ethics and principles and is given greater responsibility for continuing their learning and practice. Women’s Kallah: Nutrition and Your Beautiful Self! Presented by Judy Palken, MNS, RD, LDN. CBS Sisterhood is thrilled to bring Kallah back. A Kallah is an opportunity to learn and schmooze with your friends while enjoying a light lunch, tea, and Havdalah. All adult women are welcome. We will gather on Saturday afternoon from 12:00 – 4:30 pm in Marlborough. The location will be emailed to you after you have registered. Our speaker, Judy Palken, is a registered dietitian who translates the science of nutrition into practical recommendations for health. She has a master’s degree in clinical nutrition from Cornell University, and spent many years in Boston hospitals, with a specialty in cardiac nutrition. More recently, she has worked in nutrition research in the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. Currently Judy develops nutrition classes, teaching how great food choices and other behaviors can reduce inflammation, promote good health, and help us to feel our best. In this presentation, Nutrition and Your Beautiful Self, we will look at food and behavioral choices that can help us to look our healthy, glowing best! Topics will include foods that protect our skin, give us well-nourished hair, and help us to maintain a youthful appearance. Lots of gorgeous paintings will be included. -
